St Maries Cathedral Spire Rebuilt and Gilded

Despite gale force winds and near constant driving rain for the last few months we are nearly there, part of the spire has been taken down and rebuilt. On Wednesday the 10th February 2016 we will be proudly hoisting the cross and the restored and gilded weather vane 200ft to the top and setting them in position for all to see across the great city of Sheffield. You have a few more hours to view the cross in the Cathedral and then its back to the top for the next 50 years. Its not been easy lowering those great spire stones to ground and taking them back up again but we are lucky to have some of the best Stonemasons around who have shown great skill and dedication to brave the elements at such a height and get the job done.
So next time you shopping around the centre of Sheffield on a summers day and you catch a golden glint in your eye, look skywards towards the Cathedral and check out your restored spire.

St Marie’s Cathedral, Sheffield

St Marie’s Cathedral, Sheffield. 200ft to the top of the spire and we have made a start.

The magnificent St Marie’s with its tall spire towering over Sheffield was opened on 11th September 1850.

History in the making!

We recently began restoration work at St Thomas’ & St Mary Magdalene’s Church in Stockton Heath beginning with the removal of the Crosfields Bell making way for the 10 new bells.

I am pleased to recommend Lloyd & Smith Ltd. as the main contractor, especially for projects relating to the conservation of historic buildings, and I look forward to working with them again in the future.
